3 Tech-Based Tools to Make Freelancing as a Writer Easier

If someone asks me what I love about the modern work culture, I’ll say the flexibility we can now enjoy. Just think about it, you have work models like hybrid, remote work, and freelancing on the rise.

To top that, you have a ton of technological tools that can help make each part of these already convenient work models well even more convenient.

As a freelancer writer myself, I’ve used many such tech-based tools to find work, improve my productivity and efficiency, and ensure quality in my work. In this article, I’m going to share three such tools that worked for me and may just work for you.

Together, we’ll explore what these tools are, the technology behind them, and the benefits they can bring to you as a freelance writer.

Just a heads up! These tools are online, so you’ll need a fast and reliable internet connection to make the most of them. If you’re looking for one, I’d recommend looking into the Xfinity Internet plans.

Now, let’s get started!

  1. Landing a Job – Upwork

Upwork is one of the most renowned artificial intelligence (AI) based platforms for finding a project. As a writer, you can find a range of jobs, both short-term and long-term. The platform’s job feed is regularly updated to keep you ahead of newer opportunities.

They also offer you the flexibility of choosing the pricing model that suits you more; you can either charge an hourly rate or a fixed end-of-project payment. You are not limited to a short pool of companies either, as both small and large businesses often post job openings looking for global talent.

Their payment system is also safe for freelancers. If you choose to go for hourly payments, you’ll be paid as long as each hour you spend matches Upwork’s criteria (make sure to take a look). If you go for a fixed payment system, clients have to deposit the funds either upfront or after a maximum of 14 days.

However, I will warn you that success on Upwork is not an overnight journey. You will have to spend a fair share of time building and testing your proposals, and initially may have to settle for a little less than what you expect. Once you’ve spent some time building your credibility, you can showcase projects and achievements, making it easier to land a more rewarding job.

  1. Improving Efficiency – ChatGPT

How can you write an article on making writing easier without the undisputed champion? ChatGPT is an AI-powered LLM (Large Language Model) that uses ML (Machine Learning) and NLP (Natural Language Processing) to generate content such as humanlike text, speech, and sometimes even images.

You can use it for brainstorming ideas (we’ve all been through the block), researching, and developing an outline for your content piece. Once you’re done with your piece, you can also use it to proofread and make improvements or additions. All this can save you a lot of time, prevent errors, and you never know, it might result in your next masterpiece.

You can also use ChatGPT for tasks beyond just the creative writing part of your work. For example, you can quickly create professional and more targeted proposals to send to potential clients and emails to communicate with current ones.

However, keep in mind that your unique writing style, creativity, thoughts, and personality can only shine through when you use ChatGPT as a sidekick, like Robin, instead of turning it into Batman; that’s your job! The temptation to write a detailed blog in seconds is huge, but it can impact your credibility and only tune down your real skills.

  1. Ensuring Human Touch – GPTZero

While AI platforms like ChatGPT provide a lot of opportunity for writers everywhere, a few sus boys and girls among us (yes, that’s a pun) have begun to rely solely on such tools to generate content quickly. This has resulted in clients demanding human-generated content more than ever, as it helps with Google rankings.

Fortunately, you can use AI-powered platforms like GPTZero to ensure your content sounds like you, instead of AI-generated. I always find it kind of ironic how AI is AI’s biggest enemy, isn’t it? The tool analyzes your content piece and provides a score between 0 to 100 on how human it sounds.

You can use this to identify areas where your content sounds robotic or AI generated and then make the changes needed. This can go a long way in developing and maintaining your credibility.

As a writer, there will be topics you’ll write about that may be too technical or specific, which can result in your piece sounding AI-generated. If clients use similar tools to check your content and find it tilting more towards being AI-generated, it may result in them mistrusting you, impacting your credibility and prospects.

To save yourself from this embarrassment, it would help to cross-check your content’s human score before sending the final draft to the clients. The results? Positive reviews, a higher chance of clients returning, and a higher chance of being recommended for other projects.
